On to Novi Sad
This was the first photoshoot for Sophies.model that took us out of Hungary and into the beautiful city of Novi Sad in Serbia, a country that we are slowly becoming very familiar with. This was to be our third tour of the Balkans with our Serbian friends, who we have known for many years now but only discovered the beauty of this region last year
Where has all the petrol gone?
I can’t say the trip to Novi Sad wasn’t without excitement, as the Triumph Tiger 900 that Triumph Budapest had loaned me for the Balkan tour was badly in need of fuel. We had already passed one fuel station that had closed down and another that was out of fuel. With gods mocking us, we decided to leave the highway in search of any petrol station and fortunately, it wasn’t too long before we found one.
With the bikes now fueled up, we decided to stay off the highway and enjoy some of the local country lanes and villages on the way to our destination, where we would be meeting our photographer, Zoran Pucarevic, who was patiently waiting by the banks of the Danube in Novi Sad.
Novi Sad Travelers and aliens
After a few wrong turns and ending up on a first-name basis with the same bloody roundabout, we finally found Zoran. At first glance, he seemed to be standing amid a community of new-age travelers waiting for a sign from the heavens. However, it seems the river bank is a popular place on Sundays for families to head down to, kitted out with tents, BBQ’s and vast amounts of beer. The air was filled with the smell of smoke and meat sizzling away on the grill. I was quickly reminded how hungry I was.
Packing logic
The weather was beautifully sunny and was sure to add to the quality of the riverside pictures that Zoran was going to take. Zoran had already found a great spot to take some pictures and after a brief walk, he and Sophie started to get to work. Great, this was a perfect opportunity for me to grab my portable coffee machine and coffee pods for a cheeky drink after the ride. Now, the only problem was that we were packed for an eight day trip on two motorcycles and at the time of packing, thought I had applied some logic to what should be at hand, coffee machine: check, sugar: check… where are the bloody coffee pods?? The gods laughed once more…
A moral dilemma
With the 4 sips of water that I had left in my bottle, I watched the photoshoot and managed to grab some of my own footage for the usual social media and website. I also watched as Sophie discovered just how cold the water still was as she waded out to pose on a log that wasn’t actually attached to anything. This was something I could see from my vantage point but obviously not from hers. ‘How long should I wait before I tell her?’, I thought to myself. After a quick look at the strength of the current, I decided the sensible thing would be to point out the flaw in her plan, besides, there were two bikes and I only had one ass.
Quick results
After about an hour or so, the photoshoot was finished and it was time to head off to Belgrade to find our apartment (and that is a whole new story). We had a quick preview of Zoran’s pictures and knew that we were going to receive some great shots from him, which he supplied very quickly to us about a week later and are available on the SophieS Portfolio page.
Final thoughts on Novi Sad
Novi Sad is a beautiful place with an amazing atmosphere suitable to the young and the old. It was a pleasure to meet and work with Zoran and we would love to work with him again in the future if we are ever over this way again.
